Short Vowel Words
Basic Words: mix, milk, smell, last, head, friend, class, left, thick, send then, stick.
Review Words: test, dish
Challenge Words: empty, glance.

Monday - Pre-Test
If you score a 100% on your pre-test you have the option of completing only half of the regular spelling contract. So instead of needing 100 points for an A you will only need 50 points.

Wednesday - Idioms
Idiom - an expression whose meaning is different from the meanings of its separate words.
What does "He is skating on thin ice." mean?
1. Brainstorm a list of idioms from your spelling words.
2. Listen to the story "A Chocolate Moose for Dinner" by Fred Gwynne.
3. Select your favorite idiom to illustrate.
4. Create class Big book of Idioms.

Thursday - Word Hunt
1. Get in groups of 5.2. Using the magazines provided search for words with short a, e or i vowel patterns.
3. Make a list of the discovered words.
4. When time is called, meet with your group and pool together your words. Make a master list of your words.
5. Check to make sure your words are short vowels sounds.
6. Share lists with class.
